Being organised in the workshop- Welding trolley

Welding, it’s something I’ve done for 27 years and is one of the most useful processes on the planet.

As one welding instructor said early on in the piece, “cleanliness is next to godliness” and he was right on a number of levels, from making sure your material is clean (where you can!), ensuring you have good quality electrodes and shielding gases that help to eliminate impurities in the weld pool for a cleaner weld and, one of the most important of all, keeping your workspace clean and tidy.

Tidiness has been described as having a place for everything so nothing is out of place, and, as I have found over the years, when you have to search for tools, components, welding consumables it adds way too much time, even to small jobs.

A welding trolley to store and move welding gear is a massively useful item and makes life a lot easier around the workshop no matter what kind of welder you have.

The trolley below is great for home mig welders, especially the budget ones that come with shorter leads and need to get closer to the workpiece!

This type of trolley has gas cylinder storage, a place for the welder and room to store tips, shrouds and the gear you use every time you weld, as well as good quality wheels to support and stabilise the weight of all that gear.

A place to hang your welding helmet, grinding shield and hood are great features and the lockable drawers keep the curious (the kids, right?) away from expensive and needed gear.

Being able to move your welding equipment around to suit your project will pay for itself very quickly, as it has for me. Best of luck with your projects!

Feel free to use the comment section below to tell me about your projects, I (and others too) like to read about what other people are doing.
